The Chicago High School for the Arts
The mission of The Chicago High School for the Arts (ChiArts) is to provide artistically gifted, diverse chicago high school students intensive pre-professional training in the arts, combined with a comprehensive college preparatory curriculum.
Before ChiArts opened in 2009, Chicago was the only major city in America without a public arts high school. ChiArts was established to build the diversity of the arts community in Chicago and provide talented students with opportunities in the arts that they could not find or afford anywhere else. ChiArts is now at the forefront of a national movement to build diversity in the arts in America, and its unique model focuses on providing talented students - the majority of whom had little to no prior training in the arts - with an opportunity to develop their unique artistic voice. ChiArts has been designated a 2016-2018 Exemplary School by the Arts Schools Network and remained in the top 6% of U.S. high schools in the U.S. News and World Report for the second year in a row.
