JUST TRYAN IT - Children's Triathlon

JUST TRYAN IT

JUST TRYAN IT raises money for families with children going through treatment for cancer. In addition to the cost of treatment, families face many indirect costs related to a cancer diagnosis. These indirect costs include: travel, lodging, meals, childcare costs as well as special foods, clothing and equipment.  The race is open to children between the ages of six to fourteen. Some photos of last year’s race help set the tone for next yeas's  race.

Kids train, raise money, and race in honor or memory of children affected by childhood cancer. In fact, some of the racers are past patients or ones whose lives have been touched directly by this illness. While every child who crosses the JUST TRYAN IT finish line is a hero in their own right, it is the children whose lives have been forever changed by cancer that make up the heart and soul of our organization. Registration is OPEN at: https://justtryanit.com/our-races/bethesda-md

The first race was held in Bethesda at Landon School in 2010.  Since then, kids’ triathlons have been held in locations, including Baltimore, MD, Alexandria, VA, and Chapel Hill, NC. Races will be added in Massachusetts and Atlanta in 2019.

Ryan Darby, the inspiration behind JUST TRYAN IT, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia when he was six years old. On December 23, 2009, when most families were getting ready to celebrate the holidays with family and friends, Ryan was being checked into a hospital.

Today, Ryan is a healthy 15 year-old. At age 12, Ryan was named the National Youth Ambassador to Hyundai Hope On Wheels Foundation
