Designs for Dignity
WHY WE EXIST. Designs for Dignity was founded on the belief that every individual should have access to environments that support the wellness of the human spirit. Design is a transformational force in human life. Our physical surroundings directly impact how we feel, react, aspire and engage. Spaces of hope, dignity and comfort are foundations for nurturing the growth and success of every human being.
Limited resources often prevent nonprofits from creating environments that preserve dignity for the people they serve. Designs for Dignity is a collection of individuals bound by our passion for the creative and taking its life-changing capacity to those who need it most. We are committed to assisting nonprofit organizations that change lives. Our work transforms lives by transforming spaces into more functional and nurturing environments.
HOW WE DO IT. We harness the combined power of pro bono design, construction talent and donated materials to breathe new life into existing nonprofit spaces, giving them the platform from which they can better serve individuals in their focus mission. We collaboratively design human-centric spaces rooted in the needs of each organization.
In 2000, our work started with one woman, one vision and one project. Since then, we have renovated and restored the environments of over a hundred community programs and nonprofit organizations across the Midwest. We have made a substantial contribution to these organizations and programs to help them better serve their constituents.
HOW WE WORK. It starts with a team. Interior designers, architects and other industry professionals donate time to create healing environments for our service grant recipients. Manufacturers, vendors, craftsmen, clients and showrooms provide furnishings and materials that are reused in the spaces. Individuals and community advocates round out our team to implement and carry through our mission for each project.
