TheatreWorks is one of America's outstanding professional theatres.  Our works celebrates the human spririt through innovatinve productions, new works, and education programs inspired by and engaging our diverse Silicon Valley community. 

 

 

History:

Established in 1970, TheatreWorks Silicon Valley continues to celebrate the leadership of our founding Artistic Director: award-winning and community-celebrated Robert Kelley. Now in Season 48, the company has grown to a nationally recognized professional organization known for critically-acclaimed mainstage productions, community-integrated education offerings, and renowned new works programming. Led by Kelley, Managing Director Phil Santora, and a 30-member Board of Trustees, the company has a permanent staff of 40. In addition, we hire over 300 actors, directors, musicians, designers, teaching artists, and theatre technicians throughout the year. Now in season 48, the company has grown to a nationally recognized professional organization known for award-winning mainstage productions, community-integrated education offerings, and renowned new works programming.

Numbers Served:

As one of the three largest professional performing arts organizations serving the Bay Area, TheatreWorks directly engages over 125,000 diverse audience members and 20,000 students with a primary focus on seven counties in and around Silicon Valley.

Education Initiative:

TheatreWorks for Schools, our arts education initiative, celebrates its 16th year serving an average of 25,000 students and 1,000 teachers from more than 50 schools annually, with an emphasis on San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. In direct partnership with PAUSD and the Kennedy Center, TheatreWorks provides eleven distinct programs, including: Concepts at Play, the Oskar Assemblies, the Children’s Healing Project, the Young Playwright’s Project, and 1440 Countdown.

New Works Initiative:

TheatreWorks’ New Works Initiative has introduced over 150 new works to the American theatre repertoire, and helped establish long-term relationships with over 175 playwrights, lyricists, and composers. By collaborating with artists and expanding local partnerships, we continue to grow our ability to reach a broader audience while building greater relationships with local businesses and community leaders.
